Story of the stone

vimeo

“Alabama voted to outlaw abortion entirely no exceptions for rape and incest! Doctors who perform the procedure could go to prison for 99 years, simply for providing healthcare that one in four American women obtains at some point in her life……” 15/05/2019 I was born under China’s One Child Policy! I always thought, I have to goto a country where I can make the decision myself : “When to have a child” and “How many child should I have”! I have two beautiful sons now, it’s hard to work and being a mother. Would I have more children? Maybe not! Mentally and physically pregnancy and child birth reshaped my life! But it’s a decission for me and my husband to make, not the law! I am devastated by the news and feel heartbroken for the young girls that will suffer under this brutal system! In my performance : Break the Vase I told audiences my childhood story of being attacked by my father at night, with blood and kisses … “I use to think, that one day he will come back and one day he will rape me…” I invited audience to throw water Ballons at me to help me to wash my memory. In my other performance, The story of the stone. I invited audience to write a word on a stone and give it to me, I then added them around my body, different layers of meaning that describes my roll as a woman, words that combined with audience’s own emotions. This action also added weight to my body. THREE MOUNDS by Yoko Ono originally made in 1999. using three identical mounds of rocks from three Israeli towns, The pacifist intentions are obvious. Yoko Ono evolved the idea in 2008 as a denunciation of violence against women: one mound of earth represented female victims of domestic violence, another presented women confined in mental hospital, and a third was dedicated to female victims of sexual abuse. I noticed There are few little grasses growing in the three mounds. They are so fragile but a sign of life and hope in the cold peel of earth! So I want to create a performance that allow audience to interacted with a stone mound: reshape it and change it! In this performance I was buried inside 3tones of stones up to my rib cage, audience are invited to remove them. Live Performance at The Museum of Fine Art, Leipzig. Curated by Alfred Weidinger, as part of the Yoko Ono, Peace is Power Exhibition.
